Causes and primary reason for sexual addiction

What causes sexual addiction is debatable. However, it is believed that sex addiction disorder, just like other addiction (alcohol addiction or gambling addiction) is result of neurons associated with brain’s reward seeking pathways. Sexual activities or watching porn activates a combination of sites in the brain associated with pleasure, known together as the “reward center” or “pleasure pathway” of the brain.

As a result the brain’s pleasure seeking chemicals dopamine and other neurochemicals release is increased. As this cycle continues, the neurotransmitters seek mechanism to stimulate brain’s pleasure pathways. As a result, sex withdrawal creates vacuum and affects balance of chemicals that maintains balance of brains reward seeking pathways. One example is serotonin which is a natural mood stabilizer.

The chemical imbalance in person’s brain lead to exploring options to satisfy the sexual urge thus leading to the addiction.
