Exciting news for Harry Potter Fans A Snake Has Been Officially After Salazar Slytherin. If you are a Harry Potter fan and love the wizarding world of Hogwarts, here is another reason to celebrate. Researches in India have discovered a new species of very rare Green Snake which has officially been named after Salazar Slytherin, one of the famous four founders of Hogwarts.
For those who have forgotten the history of Hogwarts, 4 friends who happen to be the legendary wizards have founded the magical Hogwarts school for wizards. Who were the four founder –
- Godric Gryffindor
- Helga Hufflepuff
- Rowena Ravenclaw
- Salazar Slytherin
In the honor of these four legends, Hogwarts students were divided in 4 different houses namely Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw & Slytherin.
While Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermoine Granger belonged to Gryffindor, the famous bad characters such as Voldemort, Professor Snape belonged to its arch rival Slytherin house.
Inspired by the Harry Potter series, the scientist team that discovered this beautifully scary species of snake decided to name after Slytherin. With this announcement, the Slytherin is no longer just a fantasy name but now a real life living species.
What’s this new species
The newly discovered green snake falls in the family of green pit vipers. The green pit vipers grow Approximately 18 – 28 Inches In Length From Head To Tail. This Species Has Keeled Scales Giving Them A Dragon Like Appearance. Most importantly, these Are Venomous Reptiles and hence pose serious threat to us.
Pit vipers are arboreal snakes and spend most of their life in trees. Warm humid climate with lots of branches to climb or bask in sunlight is ideal atmosphere for these snakes.
As per Science Direct
The Green Pit Viper snake is a highly complex mix of toxins, including metalloproteinases that cause local tissue destruction and thrombin-like proteins that cause a coagulopathy. Some species have venom with significant amounts of neurotoxins such as a phospholipase A2 that blocks nerve transmission.
If bitten by these snakes or any member from pit viper family, seek medical attention immediately as the symptoms appear within a few minutes to a few hours after a bite and may include: Severe, immediate pain with rapid swelling.
Why the scientist chose Salazar Slytherin
Salazar Slytherin was famous for being able to speak to snakes and for practicing the Dark Arts. As published in Zoosystematics and Evolution, the team leading discovery of this snake made it instant hit by naming after Salazar. Its full name “Trimeresurus salazar.” The scientist also mentioned that this name has been adopted from the Wizarding world of Harry Potter. Isn’t this an exciting news for Harry Potter fans.
As per Zoosystematics
This snake is a member of the subgenus Trimeresurus, a relationship deduced contingent on two mitochondrial genes, 16S and ND4, and recovered as sister to Trimeresurus septentrionalis Kramer, 1977
The snake was found in Arunachal Pradesh, a state located at the base of world famous Himalayan Mountain Ranges. Due to its ample flora and fauna, Arunachal Pradesh is home to many wild life species and snakes. You can spot many snake species including the most venomous king cobra here.
The discovery of this snake has awaken the world of Harry Potter (in the lack of new movie or next chapter in Harry Potter’s series, the chatter among it’s fan base was dwindled). Now again the Harry Potter has started trending social media sites and trends such as #harrypotter or #slytherin started trending on microblogging sites.
We hope Green Salazar Slytherin snake discovery in India made Harry Potter fans happy.
